一般按合金成份進行分類，用途表述則對比渙散。 分類碳化鎢基硬質合金：包含 WC—Co、WC—TaC—Co、WC—TiC—Co、 WC—TiC—TaC—Co、WC—Ti—TaC—NbC—Co 等合金，這些合金均以碳化鎢為主 成份。

涂層硬質合金：一般指在韌性的碳化鎢基硬質合金基體上經過化學氣相 堆積或物理涂層辦法，涂上幾微米厚的 TiC、TiN、Ti（C、N）、Al2O3 之類的硬 質化合物而出產的。
